I hope you are all having a stellar new year!
Mine has been pretty great so far. I mean, I haven't showered or washed my hair all year, but I am pleased to say, I have remained sober, and only had 6 brownies the entirety of 2009...which is an improvement from last year.
Holla!
Did you all make your mandatory, unattainable new year resolutions yet?
I didn't.
My 2009 resolution? Continue to eat.
Lots.
Yup, that's right, I am resolute to always get seconds, hell, thirds if my pants allow it.
Annnddd...that's pretty much it. I could list some other feel good, random crap, like losing weight, saving money or giving more of myself to others, but why bother. I don't keep those resolutions, so why set myself up for another year of underachieving?
But, eating lots of food? Um, I am pretty sure I can do that for, like, an entire year, no problem.
Hell, I am already in overachiever mode, as I sit here cocked back in my chair, with my shirt pulled up over my belly, and my pants slouched down to my hips, so as to allow for a prime, easily cleanable surface to rest my reheated bowl of last night's mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and pork on.
Besides, I have other life goals and obligations that I wouldn't really dub resolutions that I'll be busy with this year.
Like...giving birth to a happy, healthy baby. Sending my oldest to preschool (sob!). Writing a book. Inventing a lasagna I can eat with out gagging because I absolutely hate ricotta cheese (hello, looks like a yeast infection). Getting a bigger house. Growing my hair down to my butt. Finally meeting my three hawt ass BlogHer roomies in Chi town. Strike it rich in the always controversial Nigerian lottery. Convince Oprah I would be the best guest ever. Make the Top 50 Blogs in 2008 list...oh wait...I did!
HERE, CLICK HERE, NOW!
Holy fuck! Thank you so much! Leaves me completely speechless! I would still, at this moment, be squealing and jumping up and down, it's just that, you know, like I said, big bowl of food on the 'ole belly. But, I am totally still giddy and dancing on the inside!
And, lastly, I need to just get myself, my couch, my DVR and my stretchy pants ready for another kick ass year of trashy tv. Gossip Girl, Big Love and The L Word (January 18th!), American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, ANTM, and, finally, the long awaited Dead Like Me movie (February-ish). Really, just too many gems to mention, but all equally important, none the less, especially as I am sure to spend all hours of the night awake, and burping a nocturnal baby on my knee.
Happy 2009!
I need a shower...or at least a baby wipe.

Happy New Year and congrats on the top 50!!
Happy New Year and congrats on the top 50!!
Love your resolution for the year. LOL Happy New Year to you too! I don't make resolutions at all because I never stick to them anyways.
I think these are the best resolutions I've read thus far. Keep up the awesomeness!
And Happy New Year!
Hey, congrats on being in the top 50! I voted for you eleventy-million times. OK, I didn't, but I would have if I'd known about it and if they allowed voting. 'Cause, you know, you rock.
I'm with you on the eating resolution. I did you proud tonight (and I had 2 gigantic margaritas, too... yeah, I rock... and sadly, roll, since I'm well on my way to being perfectly round, which is NOT cool seeing as how I'm not preggers and all. Sigh).
Happy New Year!
I LOVE lasagna too, but hate ricotta so... I compensate with lots of mozzarella. Tastes just like spaghetti, but don't all pasta dishes?
Brown hamburg, and season. Add tomatoes and let simmer until it thickens. Cook pasta. Layer in a 9x13 baking dish: meat sauce, cheese, noodle, meat sauce, cheese noodle, etc. Top with enough cheese to induce artery clogging. Enjoy.
Ya, I totally want the recipe to the ricotta cheese free lasagna when you invent it. Ricotta cheese is just nasty!
I don't do New Years Resolutions, but I do have a 101 things to do in a 1001 days list. It seemed more attainable, for some reason. :-)
OMG we have the same new year's resolution!! :)
Congratulations! You're definitely my favorite mommy blogger. Enjoy it now, because who the fuck know when I'm going to end up knocked up. Birth control is just so exhausting.
i love your new year's resolution. unfortunately for me i've done a pretty awesome job of eating too much food since i've been back in the states. i have to make one of mine eat less food. surely i will get bored with the food here soon! right? surely...
Happy 2009!
Good things will happen (shower or no shower) you are adding a girl to your family, someone to share cabbage patch kids with!!!
Eating more is most certainally an attainable goal (wish my pants would allow it)
Good luck in 09, and may it bring a lot of pink into your home!!
OK - for the lasagna. Try shredded cheddar cheese in place of the ricotta. It's reeeeeally good. You can also mix it with shredded moz. if you like?
Happy New Year!
I take baby wipe showers too! Great for the mom on the go!
Congrats on making the top 50!
Sweet… I think I'm first to comment—wow. I think that you should be able to only do what you know you can achieve anyway, so eating is a great resolution to make… good luck on keeping it.
My sister HATES ricotta. It can sometimes be left out if you just add more mozzarella in its place. Mmmm... more cheeeese. And *bonus* mozzarella doesn't resemble a yeast infection. Blech! I like ricotta, but I may need to rethink my consumption of that particular dairy product. What a shame, since I'm a champion at putting away dairy fat.
Here's to all your New Year's goals being reached!!
Wow! Congrats!
Happy New Year and Happy Eating!!
Someone needs to tell me....what did I DO before baby wipes? I mean, my hands muct have been filthy. And my floor ? How did I ever get it really and truly clean? And did you know, baby wipes are IDEAL for cleaning up the glue you use for hardwood flooring installation? Yep.
So you just whip out a handy dandy wipe - consider it your nod to water conservation in 09.
Happy New Year!
xo
Daff
Yeaaah! I heard a rumor they were working on a Dead Like Me movie. This is why your blog rocks!
My mom made lasagna with cottage cheese instead of ricota. Will that make you gag too.
I love you Brit. I'm delurking to profess it. You are the bomb. Hilarious, self-deprecating in the most unapologetic and fabulous way, and like, my twin brain sister. This could be the margarita's talking but I don't care. You are awesome and I love you and I would have totally made out with you at the bar in college while frat boys egged us on. Margaritas would have definitely been present there.
Thanks for helping me see that mommyhood doesn't have to mean sacrificing my identity, humor or potty mouth. Maybe I will procreate one day after all!
Love, smooches and salty rims (hehe)
Lindsay
Too funny! Glad to hear that you are going to be eating seconds and thirds.. hey! why not fourth helpings!
And Congrats on winning the Nigerian lottery - oops! I think I mean Top 50 Blogs!
you are SO fucking funny it kills me.
Happy new year, girl. Happy new year.........
I just bought Big Love last night and I'm totally addicted!
Plus, I have to give you props for the sauerkraut. I think I'm the only person here in the south that actually eats it, but those Ohio roots of mine just won't die!
Authentic Italian lasagna doesn't have ricotta, it has a bechemel sauce, which is pretty easy to make. Just make melt some butter, sprinkle in some flour, let it cook a few minutes to get rid of the 'raw' taste of the flour and then add some milk. I sometimes add chicken stock, too for extra flavor, but it's not true bechemel that way.
Here's the recipe I like for 'authentic' lasagna: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/mario-batali/lasagne-recipe/index.html
PS - Unlike the recipe says, I don't make my own pasta, I just by the flat kind that looks more like homemeade. You don't have to precook it that way:)
PSS-I have also put pepporoni on the top before and called it pizza lasagna....kind of like Fazzoli's, only without the EAS inducing ingredient that seems to be in all of their food.
And in the top TEN no less!! That is totally awesome. Although reading that list kind of made me tense because, man, there are a lot of great blogs out there.
Let me know how that Nigerian lottery pans out - I think I'm a shoo-in for the United Kingdom Million Pounds, myself.
wow, congrats on the top ten :-)
and yeast infection? really? so fucking gross. i totally have baked ziti in the freezer for tonight.
thanks.
I absolutely love your blog and if it were up to me, you would have been the number 1 blog out there. But it wasn't up to me lol
Good luck with the lottery.
Congrats, you soo deserve to be on that list! Happy New Year!
Resolving to always eat seconds or thirds? I can do that :)
Tip on the lasagna-- I never use ricotta cheese, I sub cottage cheese instead (always have, so has my mom) and it tastes great! Try it !:)
You so deserve being listed on that "blogs that kick ass" list. And I wish they would televise some sort of awards show where someone knocks on your door giving you the news and then we could all see your reaction as you sit there with plates and bowls on your belly....or maybe not.
2009 is gonna be so killer...with that baby girl and all that eating. Right on!!
Happy 2009! Here's to Walnuts!
You are forgetting Mommas Boys teh BEST reality TV.
OH SICK! Thanks for the ricotta reference and just leave it out and put in extra stretchy mozzarella! I never used Ricotta, but didn't mind it in other peeps' recipes, NOW, I do.
Happy New Year, and can't wait for July!
Can't wait to see you eat your way through Chi-town and congrats on the top 10 of the top 50, you know I'm crazy about you and I was so happy to see you at the top where you belong.
Happy New Year
I think you just helped me with my resolution. I am so up to that challenge of eating a lot. I've been practicing for quite some time.
I can do it, I can do it.
wait, I WON the lottery, dont make me kick your ass over the 17 million dollars I was promised
and totally deserve to be on the list, great blog, great person, lots of fun! We luvs ya.
trisha
Congrats!!
Thanks for all the laughs this year. Keep up the good work!
And keep throwing the f bomb around!
6 brownies for all of '09???????? You are like an Olson Twin.
BLOGHER '09! W00t!!!!! Let's get on the same hallway - I'm rooming with Lisalicious.
Congratulations sweetie! That is awesome!!
Enjoy the food, have fun and yippeeee (again)
hope you've showered by now, or at least spritzed yourself with something pretty and rolled on some deodorant ;-) or at the very least, scrubbed your fingers over your teeth.
I can't wait to meet you at BlogHer!!
Congrats on making the Top 50 list!
You've just made me realize that I haven't had any brownies yet this year! Must rectify!
I resolve to live vicariously through all your eating...if that sounds right...
Congrats on the Top 50 blogs thing! I saw you on that and said "Hey ... I read that one! She is great!" Of course I said it to myself but I was happy to see you on it!!!
And my husband hates lasagna because of the ricotta cheese too ...
And now I'm hungry for brownies!
I don't know if you do awards or not, but I gave you one :-)
"Hell, I am already in overachiever mode, as I sit here cocked back in my chair, with my shirt pulled up over my belly, and my pants slouched down to my hips, so as to allow for a prime, easily cleanable surface to rest my reheated bowl of last night's mashed potatoes, sauerkraut and pork on."
I find this vision very sexy.
Mashed and sauerkraut ... please ... Yep ... I want me some of that!
Why must you ruin lasagna for me? WHY?
Congrats on that! :) Woo-hoo!
Oh, man, baby wipes are my best friend - I even wrote an ode to them last year on my blog. Can't beat 'em with a stick.
Oprah hasn't called you back either? How dare she ignore Both Of Us! One of us... maybe, but both? I'm gonna have to leave a nasty on her voice mail instead of my usual begging, pleading, totally desperate stalker-type message...
Congrats again on NUMBER NINE!!! That is totally awesome ~ I bow in awe to You, Blogger-Goddess!
...Shower... oh shit, I knew I forgot to do something this year... Yours in Stank-Sisterhood... Happy New Year to you and your fam/friends!
You are starting off the year with a bang!
I like resolutions that keep me fat and happy.
Top 50?! You made the top 10!!! You freaking beat Pioneer Woman! That's something to be said.
Good luck with your book. I'd buy it. :) Also, I won't be your roomie, but I'll be at BlogHer too. Can't wait to meet you!!!
Congratulations! Any and all awards are very well deserved.
I agree about ricotta cheese, though since my wife comes from Italian stock, I've been made to develop an appreciation for it when it's smothered in delicious meat sauce and mozzarella.
Did you find a wealthy sponsor to pay your way to BlogHer? I'm jealous. I'll probably just hop on the train that weekend so I can sit on the curb outside the convention making a pathetic face hoping any pity I collect is worth something.
Or maybe I'll just get a job as a bellboy at the hotel... my kids could pay for themselves washing dishes and doing minor duct repairs and such.
P.S. Pass the brownies.
yay! Congrats to you on your eating and your top 10 rating.
You totally deserved that! You're in my top ten fo' sho'
Wow! You stayed sober for the whole year 2008? And only ate 6 brownies? No way. You are a saint. Even considering the pregnant belly, that's awesome.
As far as the lasagna resolution: the original recipe for lasagna actually doesn't contain ANY ricotta cheese. That's a VERY modified, kind of Americanized recipe, not the original Italian recipe. So there's hope :-)
It's my New Years resolution to eat, too! Too bad I now live in elastic pants and have a whole closet of awesome clothes that are dying to be worn...
Happy 2009!!
I am SO making one of your pseudo-resolutions happpen! And if it's not the BlogHer freakfest, it'll definitely be the Oprah one, cause you KNOW we're tight and all. Plus, standing next to me she still looks skinny and she digs that about me.
Happy New Year! One of the best things about being preggo is eating guilt free! As far as the lasagna, my mom makes a killer one and we hate ricotta so she uses a cottage cheese mixture- soo good!
Um? What about meeting me in Chi-town? I'm cool, too.
Congrats girl....I think you are more in the top 5! You are one of my favs for sure! :)
