Bangin' on the drum...all day.

Being a stay at home mom is tough. We all know it, I am sure Oprah did a show on it, this is not a new concept. But, aside from the grueling physical aspect of the job, there is also a brutal mental head game involved, and sometimes, it gets the better of me.

I'm not going to lie, I fully admit to letting myself go a bit. Maybe put one too many days between shavings, ignored a cheerio in my hair for a few days, gotten a bit too comfortable in my standard white tank top and shorts ensemble, maybe could have been a little more diligent in the hair washing department.

I'm not blind, I know how I look most days.

But, I birthed two children, two boys, two heirs to the family name. One of them without an epidural (the bigger one, thankyouverymuch). I don't care if smell like spoiled milk and have a maxi pad sticking out, that is no excuse for my husband to not be all over me like white on rice.

And, I felt the need to point out this glaring detail to my husband after his 8 hour round of golf this weekend. I mean, 8 hours of golf is a little extreme, I don't care if it was for charity. How about my charity...the one keeping me from sticking my head in the oven if I have to watch Bee Movie one more time. Not to mention, and I hate to be a stickler about this, but...he's been totally slacking in the calling me pretty and the best mom ever department.

I don't get performance reviews, ya know. I don't get a weekly paycheck. A girl needs to hear this stuff sometimes, or she thinks you may be sleeping with your assistant, even though that would be disgusting, Margi is in her 70s...and has no teeth on the bottom...but some might argue that is good thing, get what I am saying here (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)?

Ok, back to the issue, I want to be told I am super cute, and pretty much the best mom ever...I just don't want to have to ask to be told that. I don't want to bait him with phrases like...

"Oh lookie babe, I can fit into my fringed stonewash mini skirt from high school!"

"Listen to this hun, I taught both the boys to say the alphabet...backwards...in greek!"

"Hey sweets, wanna watch me try and reach this box up on the top shelf even though I have no pants on?"

"Look hunny, I got the boys each a set of mini golf clubs so they can golf like you and Tiger Woods, and they can be the worlds youngest PGA superstars, and we can live like kings on their wealth until they are 18, and then we can continue to micromanage their careers, extending our wealth well into our retirement!"

I don't want to put words into his mouth.

So, after a full day of subliminal pouting, I got into the shower to find this...

That, my friends, says "Papa loves mama so much" scrawled onto the shower wall with orange bathtub crayon. Is it pathetic I bawled like a baby when I saw it, as it is pretty much the most romantic thing I have encountered in a long time? Not to mention, that is quite a feat, considering, the bath crayons were crap and I couldn't get them to write for the boys to save my life.

And yeah, we call each other mama and papa...we're those people.

Now excuse me, I have some clouds to walk on...in between helping the boys with their short game, and trying to reach boxes on impossibly high shelves.

We lead eerily similar lives...not only do we say Mama and Paka (my daughter started saying Paka instead of daddy when she was like 10 mos and it just stuck) but I have recieved I love you messages in the shower...they were out of foam tub letters though, not the crayons:)

Okay so C and I were watching the finale of "The Bachelorette" (which we have not watched a SINGLE episode of before that) and they were doing all these romantic things for her and i was all 'How come you don't do that for ME?' I think he got thehint. I will post about it should it really pan out....

it must be the season for this... We had a similar discussion, themed along the lines of: "Maybe we need a long break from each other because you appreciate nothing I do. You don't even see me as a woman, but more as a fixture to care for your home and daughter."

sad days of pity party... ugh...

at least you got an incredibly perfect shower note. I will pretend I did not because we have no bath crayons...

Danger...A girl needs it every once in a while, or she feels like she looks like Roseanne.

AJ...That is so stinkin cute! I think you need to get paka on board and the four of us can meet up and out cute each other:)

Ali...Awwww thanks! You're a hottie yourself!

KD...I hope it pans out for you, and take a picture! Heck, it may not happen again for a loooong time, so it's best to document these things when they happen.

That's a great story!! It's so nice to get a compliment out of the blue and when you need it the most.

Also, I made that corn last night and, as expected, it was crazy-delicious!! Thanks again for the recipe.

I love it, i'm laughing, a bit tearing, then cheering at the end!! That is sweet and I so know about needing the performance reviews every once in a while to make a girl giddy!

Oh my i'm cracking up at this

the one keeping me from sticking my head in the oven if I have to watch Bee Movie one more time

for us it's Little Einsteins or Phinneaus and Ferb, but same thing.

This is probably gross, but we do shower messages also. However, it's usually hearts made of my hair that seems to fall out in huge clumps.

I'm looking forward to the day when we have kid crayons.

Jennifer...Shut UP! I am so glad you liked it! Did you rub it on by hand?

Jen...Ugh...I feel ya on the Phinneas and Ferb thing...my boys LOVE that show as well...I now have the song stuck in my head!

Aross...That is hilarious! The things I could spell out with my clumps of hair...gosh, what an untapped romantic resource!

Wow! I am sooo jealous. I wish I still had my stone-washed mini-jean skirt from the 80's! Maybe I can borrow yours? I have an 80's party coming up. haha

I wimped out and used a brush. I'm a loser...

So cute! Maybe us ladies need to hear that sort of thing more than the boys, but yes, all those things definitely need to be said on a regular basis.

And golf for 8 hours??? Good Lord.

I am making sure my wife sees your blog... so she will know I am not out of my mind, when I have the same chats with her....

See, lesbian and str8 moms are not so damn different after all... I need someone to just say "hi, how was your day?" and then listen as I answer.... feel your pain babe!

Gotta get me some of those tub crayons... I can write a tub blog, about my day... just for her!

{grinning}
