Scary Friday Stuff

Happy Halloween!

I love Halloween, or more, the thought of Halloween. I mean, I love the weather, I feel waaay skinnier in jeans than in shorts, and I love the smell and the leaves, and all that magical autumnal goodness. And, in my mind, I associate all that loveliness with Halloween...a theory I have recently found fault with.

Now, I love eating my kid's candy, and I plan to enjoy that selfish treat for as long as they are oblivious to the situation. But, I am not a fan of dragging screaming toddlers door to door, or handing out candy to high school seniors with no costume other than stage three acne and body odor, and the french maid clad tweens...where is your mother!? And candy, darlings, is a privilege. A...what's the word...treat, if you will. Not a God given right. I'll give you a piece, and when I am out I am out. Would it kill you to say thank you...or at least not walk across the bushes in my yard?

I think I loved Halloween more before kids, when I could still dress like a hooker with out a care in the world. Now, I have responsibility, and with responsibility comes...well, a flask.

People judge you if you look like Dina Lohan out there downing liquor with reflective stickers on your chest and lipstick smeared across your face.

No, you gotta be smart about it. Put it in a thermos, wrap your hands around it and give a bit of a shiver with each drink, then it looks like hot chocolate and you are still mother of the year.

Now, here is the deal. I don't have much of a post today because I still have to buy candy and wax a few things.

Buuuuuttttt....I will post something of value, along with some pictures either tonight or tomorrow. And, yes, I know tomorrow is Saturday, and not a huge blog reading day, but you should make the exception, it's gonna be big. I don't want to give too much away, but I will definitely be biting the head off a bat!

And by bat, I mean eat ten tacos and watching April Fools Day (best horror 80's horror film ever) after the kids stop seizing from sugar and pass out watching The Great Pumpkin.

So, I guess in hindsight...nothing big at all...probably some pictures, and um...that's about it. I guess go about your normal Saturday activity and check me out on Monday, God knows I won't be updating this shit again until then.

My, how my standards have fallen.

But, before I go, I have a few parting tid bits.

1. Blogher. If any of you have ever spoken to me about Blogher, you know, in excruciating detail, how much of a fan I am of this network. From the ads to the women involved, I can't say more about how amazing they are. And, if the blog promotion, ad revenue, kick ass conferences and league of strong women wasn't enough...they have amazing promotions and contests, one of which was sponsored by Prego, asking members to write about ways you deal with the pinch of food costs and still feeding your family well. A wonderful promotion I happened to win, with a $1000 prize to boot! Thank you so much Prego, and Debbie Babbitt, and Blogher...seriously, everyone always says they never won anything before, and I have to admit, I am one of those cliches! This is my first prize ever, and I couldn't be more excited, thanks so much! Errr...Prego! (get it...prego means thanks in Italian. See dad, I knew taking four years of Italian in college would pay off someday, granted, not quite how I envisioned it, rather me stumbling drunk down the streets of Rome, but hey, a girl can't have it all. Either way, I am sure times like this make it worth paying off all those student loans, doesn't it!)

2. My one year blog anniversary is coming up, so I am planning a big ole giveaway, feel free to let the big sponsorship roll in, contact me by email if you would like to be involved. I was gonna give away a Wii, but some lady named Dooce (?) gave one away already, whatevs.

3. Wanna read something funny, eye opening and somewhat controversial...check out a review of my blog, here. I mean, I am just excited she called me skinny.

Ha! I still manage to eat much of my seven-year-old's candy... I've got him convinced that's just how it works, so he just offers it to me now. And, hey, I just joined Blogher last night. I'm feeling pretty stupid about it. Any words of wisdom? Ooo, and congrats!

Congrats! I've been reading for a while, and I wouldn't want to go up against you in a writing contest of ANY kind.

Teens without costumes stopped getting candy at my house two years ago...the secret is to park your car in front of the neighbors house.

BTW: If you have any of your old "hooker" pics layin' around...just sayin'.

And I'll be eating plenty of the kids' candy, too. Dammit.

Congrats on the $1000! That'll buy a lot of halloween candy.

By the way, that blog was uncool. Did you see her creepy Marilyn Manson goth picture? Talk about unflattering...glass houses, and so forth.

Holy shit! Am I first?? No f'in way.

I better hurry up before someone beats me. Congrats on Prego! That is awesome!!

Interesting review - I think she likes you?

Also, I totally love Halloween...but I think I agree that in some ways it was better before kids.

Although I love dressing my kids up. Which will probably change when they want to start picking their own costumes.

Oh god - how awful is it to think you are first and then you are like 307th.

Congrats you!!! You totally deserve this!!

I heart candy. And chocolate. I don't have any kids so I can't take their candy. Dang it!

Happy Halloween!

May I suggest you fill your Thermos with a fruity cocktail or maybe even a White Russian... you know, something of nutritional value, for your baby's sake.

Happy Halloween, and congratulations on the win, well deserved.

I almost booked a flight to Ohio so that I can be Ali Lohan and we could go door-to-door together, drinking peppermint schnapps.

Congrats, btw. Can you send me a fiver towards my weeding.

Thanks.

You skinny biatch...winning $1000 and have a kick ass blog. I am so jealous.
That website scared the bejesus out of me. I keep thinking if they see my measly little blog they'd give me the short bus award.
Anyhoo, you RAWK...but we already knew that!!!

Wow Brit! I thought only those of us raised in Soprano-land with Sicilian step-families took Italian in HS! Congrats on the Prego Prize--don't do the happy dance too hard, in your condition, you could black out both your eyes. Enjoy your thermos... you can call it what my mother used to... "Mommy's Magic Milk"--of course they were white russians, which I figured out when she started having me make them so she didn't have to get off the couch...Ahhh Good Times... Who says you can't learn valuable lessons from your parents, eh? And Happy Blogiversary! Now you can go around singing this little ditty...
"Me, me, me. It's all about me. La la la la la, Yay ME!"
I say that with all due respect and admiration for your blog! Yay YOU!
Ciao for now,
Aria

Well, who better to win something Prego-related, than someone prego-related, if you get my meaning. (i.e.preggers?)

Congrats on that awesome award!

Dude. All I remember in 3 years of college Italian are the curse words.

Which makes the student loans even more worthwhile.

I hate trick or treaters, too. Isteal all the good candy from my kids, too. I have a blog, too. I never won $1000 or had a good review. And God knows I have never been called skinny.

I read the review of your blog and I agree with the "don't change your content part." You are fantastic! You have made me laugh so hard I've cried on several occasions. I also agree you look great as a brunette and I love the new picture. As far as the design of your page I think it's organized and easy on the eyes...nothing jumps out as distracting to me.

wooot! CONGRATS ON THE LOOT! And that whack job calling you skinny. You think she's a 400 lb. woman that can't get out of bed?
